What’s the difference between raw hair and “virgin” hair?Virgin hair is hair that is compiled of left over hairs (fallen hairs) from raw hair bundles. Virgin hair comes from many donors and often times isn’t aligned from top to bottom, from roots to tips, resulting in matts and tangles. Virgin hair is compiled and stripped of the cuticle layer and strategically manufactured into a uniform curl pattern. It’s then coated in silicones that make the hair appear healthy, shiny, and silky. These silicones disintegrate throughout time due to heat styling and water washing. It is after heat styling and a single wash that wearers notice matting, tangling, and shedding. Virgin hair can also be mixed with heat resistant synthetic fibers and still be marketed as 100% human hair. See what Raw hair is below.
-
Why raw hair?Raw hair is compiled from a single donor. It is simply cut from the donor, cleansed and wefted. The cuticle layer of the hair is still present, intact, and healthy. The natural hair pattern bounces back after heat straightening or a chemical coloring processes. Raw hair is also unique in that no two bundles are exactly the same. Just as the natural hairs on your own head are unlike anyone’s, no two bundles are exactly the same. We aim to ensure all bundles ordered from us are similar in curl pattern and color but because of the raw uniqueness, it is possible that some bundles may have slight variances. We believe this contributes to the natural look of our customer’s installs.
-
Can raw hair become damaged? It is important to note that although our hair is at the healthiest level when received by you, damage can still occur with improper handling. Just as the natural hair on your own head can sustain damage, raw hair can too. We recommend that our customers who choose to chemically color their raw hair, consult with a licensed hair professional as raw hair is not above becoming damaged. We also recommend that our customers who choose to heat style their raw hair never use heat above 400 degrees and use minimal heat passes to prolong the life and moisture level of the hair.

Can the hair be straightened?Absolutely YES! We also recommend that our customers who choose to heat style their raw hair never use heat above 400 degrees and use minimal heat passes to prolong the life and moisture level of the hair. See, Can raw hair become damaged?

Can I swim in the hair?Absolutely YES! Take a dip in chlorine, salt water, or lakes in our hair. You are free to enjoy yourself without worrying about your hair. Just remember to always cleanse and condition after as salt and chlorine can dry out any type of hair, just like the natural hair on our heads.

How long does the hair last? Our Raw hair collection can last up to 2 to 3 years with proper care and maintenance. Maintenance includes keeping up a conditioning regime to maintain moisture, keeping heat styling to a minimum, and refraining from chemical processing. Maximizing longevity is also influenced by products. Please see, What products do you recommend?
-
How much hair do I need?Depending on the length of the hair and desired thickness, you will need 2 to 3 bundles for a full install. You will not need as much of our hair as you would purchasing “virgin” hair. Raw hair is much thicker and fuller from roots to tips that you can receive a full look utilizing less bundles.
-
What products do you recommend? We recommend using a cleansing shampoo to remove dirt and residual products at least once every 15 – 25 days of wear. We also recommend following up with a moisturizing conditioner. Please do not use a heavy conditioner or deep conditioner on healthy hair. It can cause build up in the hair. We recommend avoiding heavy products like oils and leave in conditioners. After rinsing out your conditioner the hair should be properly moisturized. Leaving products in the hair weighs the hair down and takes away from the natural sheen and movement of the hair. If the hair feels dry in between washes we recommend using a water based spray followed up with a dime size amount of light oil on the ends to seal in moisture, i.e. argon oil.
-
How should I dry the hair?We believe to ensure the longevity of your hair-vestment, you should always air dry. Air drying the hair helps to maintain the moisture level it needs to remain healthy and strong.
-
Why can’t I request a certain color? When purchasing a wig, a variety of hair colors are available for selection, but our bundled hair is sold in its natural state. Our blonde 613 hair is the only hair that we offer a color in. Raw hair comes from parts of the world where the donor’s hair is naturally a dark brown color. There may be some variations in that but in order to maintain the integrity of the raw hair, we do not color any of our hair ourselves. However, you are more than welcome to have your hair chemically colored yourself. See, Can the hair be colored?
