5 Tips For Maintaining Healthy Hair Underneath Your Wig

No tight braids!

Do not braid hair too tight underneath your wig. Tight braids can lead to permanent hair follicle damage! There’s no need to braid your hair tight underneath a wig, the braids don’t show anyway. We also don’t believe it contributes to the longevity of the braids either, we are all taking them down every 10-15 days to cleanse and condition anyway, right?

Speaking of braids..

Keep braided ends tucked under.

If your hair is long enough to braid down, make sure you tuck the ends of your braids under the corn rowed section. This keeps the wig cap from rubbing against your ends. Friction from your wig cap and your ends can lead to damage.

Don’t use the same products you use for your wig in your natural hair, and vice versa.

Your natural hair and your wig’s raw hair will most likely have different product needs. Your natural hair may need more moisture or protein than your raw hair unit, and your wig hair may need something lighter. It’s very rare that your natural hair and the raw hair wig will respond to the same products.

Skip the chemicals, and get the same look with a wig.

Why cause potential damage your own natural hair by coloring and straightening it, when you can get the same look from a wig? Next time you consider bleaching or chemically straightening your natural hair, explore that look with a wig instead.

Cleanse and condition your hair regularly.

This tip goes without saying. We recommend you cleanse and deep condition your natural hair no less than every 10-14 days. This helps maintain the moisture balance of your hair. Wigs are great protective hair styles but we still need to condition our natural hair underneath.
